Lavender Graduation

Lavender Graduation is an annual graduation ceremony conducted at the University of Richmond (and over 200 other universities around the country) to honor and celebrate LGBTQ+ graduates, students, faculty, and staff. The first Lavender Graduation was held in 1995 by Ronnie Sanlo, director of the University of Michigan's LGBTQ+ resource center at the time. The first Lavender Graduation at UR happened in 2013.

For the second year in a row, the Student Center for Equity & Inclusion is combining our Lavender Graduation ceremony with Rainbow Prom, taking place on Saturday, March 30th from 6 - 10 PM in the Queally Center.

Lavender Graduation takes place from 6 – 8 PM and includes a buffet dinner, speeches, performances, awards, and a cording ceremony for our graduating LGBTQ+ students. Rainbow Prom follows from 8 – 10 PM and consists of a DJ, dancefloor, contests, prizes, and more! There will be bar service throughout the event, as well as professional photographers taking photos. The event is FREE and open to all students, faculty, staff, and alumni, and the attire is whatever you feel fabulous in!

Please use this form to RSVP for either or both events: https://sl.richmond.edu/py. The deadline for graduating students to be recognized is March 1st.

For any questions or concerns, please contact Casey Butler (they/them), Associate Director of LGBTQ+ Campus Life, at cbutler2@richmond.edu or (804) 484-1653.
